Miritish Publishing is a subsidiary of Miritish Studio and Gallery and is located in Salida, Colorado, in the midst of Colorado’s majestic Rocky Mountains. Established in 2019 to formally represent his growing collection of art, it achieved physical reality when Dan finished construction of a 15’x30′ studio in the east half of his double garage. Now, with plenty of wall space, the studio serves as both art studio and gallery to showcase his latest paintings. Go to miritishstudio.com for a full gallery website displaying more than 60 of his art works.
Dan created the name ‘Miritish’ to mirror the studio’s location. ‘Mir’ is Russian for peace (e.g., ‘Voyna i Mir‘: War and Peace) and ’tish’, a sound a mother might use to hush and reassure her baby, similar to English ‘Shhh…’. Thus ‘Mir i Tish’, for ‘Peace and Quiet’. (Incidentally, ‘Mir’ also means ‘world’ in Russian, so you might have ‘Mir v mirye,’ for ‘World Peace.’ We could only hope.
Miritish Publishing is the outlet for Dan’s self-published printed works. He wrote Mastering Spanish Irregular Verbs in the early 2000’s when he began studying Spanish with Dr. Gonzalez, who graciously edited the book for accuracy. During Covid, he began writing Saturn Conundrum. As often happens, one thing led to another, and the plot and story line kept growing, resulting in the Saturn Accords trilogy.
In late fall of 2024, Dan addressed a challenge that had been nagging him for years. While teaching several semester-long courses in introductory programming, two issues became abundantly clear. First, a fair number of students found the material too difficult or abstract and drop out. And second, female enrolment was always far below that of their male counterparts.
Thinking that a simpler, more intuitive programming language couched in familiar English terms (and sentences!) rather than a plethora of strange math symbols might help resolve both issues, Dan created KwicKode, a new programming language. With only sixteen commands, all written as common English sentences, KwicKode is ideally suited for the beginning student. But much to his surprise, Dan discovered that KwicKode, despite its simplicity, is a fully functional programming language capable of handling even moderately challenging applications! The end result is KwicKode – Springboard to Python which he published in early 2025.
About Dan Bishop

(Contact Dan Bishop at authordbishop@gmail.com.)
Dan Bishop earned his Ph.D. degree at University of Kansas in organic chemistry and spent the better part of his career teaching a variety of chemistry classes at college level. While teaching chemistry, he also studied computer programming and became an accomplished programmer, enabling him to teach courses in programming. He retired from teaching at Colorado State University, Fort Collins. He has also been employed as a computer programmer on two separate occasions with Precision Visuals out of Boulder and with Lockheed Martin in Colorado Springs.
After retiring, he decided to learn Spanish, and during his studies he began to observe patterns in the conjugation of irregular verbs that hadn’t been called out before, which led to his writing Mastering Spanish Irregular Verbs, with editorial assistance from Dr. Gonzalez, a professor of Spanish at a nearby college.
The Saturn Accords, a science fiction trilogy consisting of Saturn Conundrum, Saturn Rendezvous, and Saturn Alliance, was written and published between 2019 and 2024, the Covid years.
KwicKode – Springboard to Python is his most recent publication. He envisioned an ultra-simple programming language that would avoid the intimidatin many beginning students experience when tackling computer programming for the first time. He created KwicKode with just sixteen commands patterned after familiar English language sentences. To his surprise, even with its simplicity, KwicKode turned out to be a fully functional language capabile of handling moderately challenging, real-world applications, such as a business inventory control or an organization’s membership database.
